Afternoon Recap and SNF Preview

The Buccaneers Survive

Here we are in week 15 and we are still having the same conversation about how the Buccaneers have a bunch of talent but can’t put it all together and a clean 60 minutes.  Earlier today they escaped a loss against an inferior Atlanta team, and they improved their record to 9-5.  After going into the locker room down 17-0, Tom Brady began to pick apart the Falcons defense threw the air throwing for 390 yards and 2 touchdowns amidst a 31-point second half performance.

What I like about the Bucs: I love the way the Bucs can come back when they are down by multiple scores and find a way to win. This is a quality that will fare well for them come playoff time. I credit this directly to Tom Brady.  He is the king of making mid-game adjustments to put his team in position to win the game.  Mike Evans has been developing chemistry with Brady in the last few weeks and is emerging as a clear number 1 receiving option for the 43 year old quarterback. Evans caught 6 passes today and 110 yards, including many important receptions down the stretch.

What Scares me about the Bucs: What scares me about the Bucs is how quickly they fall behind in games. There is no reason for them to ever trail to the Falcons by 17 points.  While they have had strong comebacks to make games close against high caliber teams (example: Chiefs), I would be afraid that in the playoffs a team like the Saints or the Packers would put them away once they go up by 17 points. The Buccaneers need to start coming out stronger if they want to make an impact in January football.

The Titans are Hot

The Titans have a single player that can propel them deep into the playoffs this season. They have a generational running back in Derrick Henry and he continues to impress week in and week out.  In football it is extremely rare that one player can carry an entire team, but Derrick Henry does just that.  Obviously Ryan Tannehill is a very strong quarterback, but his success doesn’t come without his stud running back.

This afternoon, Derrick Henry carried the ball twenty-four times for 147 yards and 1 touchdown. Henry leads all running backs in rushing attempts (297), rushing yards (1,532), and touchdowns (14).  As long as Derrick Henry continues to terrorize defenses the way he did in this clip from today, the Titans are going to be a tough out.

The Titans currently come in at 10-4 and I believe they could be the team to upset the Chiefs this postseason.

Sunday Night Football Preview

Gambling: Browns -6.5 | Over/Under 44.5

Tonight the Cleveland Browns will travel to East Rutherford, New Jersey to take on the New York Giants. The 5-8 Giants look to keep their playoff hopes alive tonight and will have to do so without starting quarterback, Daniel Jones. Jones is out tonight with an ankle injury and will be replaced by Colt McCoy.

The Browns are coming off a tough loss to the Ravens on Monday Night Football last week in a game that many consider to be the game of the year.  Baker Mayfield and the Browns continue to prove the doubters wrong, coming into this one at 9-4.  While Baker has played well, the story for the Browns has been their rushing attack.  Their rushing game is ranked third in the NFL, led by Nick Chubb who has ran for 881 yards and 9 touchdowns this season.

Although the Browns did come up short a week ago, they still had quite an impressive performance.  I expect them to keep building on last week’s outing tonight against the Giants and improve to 10-4 as they head into the final weeks of the season.
